My family and I enjoy coming to the Chicago Botanical Garden every year. The Chicago Botanical Garden is a place where I find relaxation therapy, and I never get tired of going. First of all when you come here you feel very tranquil. The plants, trees, vegetable gardens, and flowers are thriving. The landscape is very put together. It’s also a great place for a day trip, family trip or even a part of a date.
The garden doesn’t believe in having unhealthy plants on display. So you will see plenty of health and thriving plants. If you like gardening, flowers and nature you won’t be disappointed.
The Chicago Botanical Garden has been in existence since 1972. It’s mission statement is to promote the enjoyment, understanding, and conservation of plants and the natural world. John O. Simonds and Geoffrey Rauscho created the master plan. When you come here you will definitely see that they have been meeting their goals at the onset on this gardens formation.
The garden causes you to feel at peace with the botanic world. I love to come here every year when the roses are in full bloom. If you like rose gardens then their rose garden has a very dramatic display. The Chicago Botanical Garden has more than 2.4 million plants with a variety of over 9000 different plants.
Some of the horticultural experts makes trips all around the world to collect plants for study, and preservation. The garden has educational programs that teach children about plant conservation. So your children can learn how to preserve the environment and be greener.
There are horticulturists here that will teach you things you didn’t know about your own garden. They offer classes that show you how to take care of your flowers, and vegetables in the garden. I’ve been to some of these classes and they are very informative.
They also have adult educational programs that teach on various topics ranging from Horticulture and Garden design, to Wellness classes. They even offer certificates and professional programs such as the Master Gardener Program.
Not only is this garden focused on botanical education but it’s a refuge for illegally imported plants. This place really gives back to the environment! When you first enter the grounds you will meet breathtaking scenery. From the water and fountain on the lake to the Lilly’s floating in the water it’s all spectacular, and so romantic.
The small creatures, chirping birds, and animals that this environment attracts will put you in awe! If you’ve never been here it’s worth coming to year after year. Just walking in it and taking pictures with your loved ones is a memory and treasure you will have for years to come.
This place grows and thrives year after year! When the flowers and different gardens are in bloom it’s stunning! Every year you will find some new project that the Botanical Garden has undertaken that will interest you.
Plus they give tours and have trams to take you around this huge place. The trees, flowers and shrubs are so sculpted. They actually look perfect. So whether it’s viewing the fruit trees and apples orchards by the water or just looking at how nature reproduces itself, this place is a paradise of knowledge.
The bountiful fruits and vegetables are all due to the high level of skill and expertise the Garden’s horticulture staff possess. The staff here know there stuff! They are experts in the field of horticulture! One of the facts about this place is that each year, 150,000 plants are produced by the Outdoor Floriculture team.
The entire family will find something to do here. There are youth programs where your children can learn about horticulture. You can come with your children at night to explore the garden at Nature Night. This program encourages you to bring a picnic basket and spend your evening in the garden.
There’s also a summer camp at the garden that allows you children to enjoy nature. It starts from June to August with all day options. Your kids will be begging to come back year and year because this place is fun and interactive!
The garden is open 365 days a year, so you can enjoy it at any time. Plus they have extended summer and winter holiday season hours.
